Cheese - Foreign Type
Report 15 - Released on April 14, 2021
Cheese imports by the United States in early 2021 are slowed by lower than hoped for milk
and cheese production in some Western European nations. Slowed shipping logistics are also a
factor. Western European sources are confident that the cheese supply squeeze will level out
as 2021 progresses.
Expectations are that more available Western European milk will go into cheese production if
needed to maintain export relationships as the year moves forward. European cheesemakers are
very committed to maintaining dominance as the largest global cheese exporting region.
Cheese manufacturing remains a very profitable use of milk in Western Europe.
United States domestic cheese prices increased $0.0475 for blue, gorgonzola, parmesan and
romano. All other prices are steady.
